Creating An E-commerce Capacity Training Programme

Client: International Trade Centre (ITC) (joint WTO and UN agency)

Programme: The E-solutions Programme

Focus: SMEs

Country: Worldwide

Donor and Partners: BMZ, GIZ, DHL, MINICOM

Goal: To build e-commerce capacity and skills in developing and least developed countries by creating a technical assistance training programme.

Activities: To build an e-commerce training curriculum which can be adapted and delivered by trainers in any country and any language around the world to increase the digital capability of SMEs. The programme was designed so it can be offered direct to SMEs or via a train the trainer coaching system to build skilled e-commerce champions in each developing country.

The work included:

  • reviewing all training programme materials and making recommendations for the next generation of the programme as it expands across the world

  • providing a new roadmap and programme design to take an e-commerce business from its strategy through to building new digital sales and digital marketing channels

  • designing and writing training modules on:
    - E-commerce Business Readiness
    - E-commerce Market Research
    - E-commerce Profitability
    - International E-commerce Websites
    - Global E-marketplaces
    - S-commerce (social commerce)
    - C-commerce (chat commerce)
    - Amazon and eBay promotion.

  • scripting promo videos to introduce the above modules to learners, government officials and funding organisations.

Results: The programme shows companies how to plan, research and assess profitability of their e-commerce business, then become visible on relevant digital sales platforms to sell online across borders. It has been delivered in many countries around the world, from Rwanda to Central America.
