Promoting Women’s Digital Empowerment In The MENA Region

Programme: Promoting Women Empowerment for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (PWE II)

Focus: Women entrepreneurs

Country: MENA region - Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and State of Palestine

Donor: Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI)

Goal: The project seeks to enhance women’s economic inclusion and promote sustainable and inclusive growth by harnessing the great potential of women entrepreneurs within the region. The project’s holistic and inclusive approach aims at addressing the issues faced by women entrepreneurs - and aspiring entrepreneurs - at macro, meso and micro levels, creating favourable conditions for sustainable growth through the development of female entrepreneurship.

Activities: To design, develop and deliver an Executive E-marketing Programme with businesses from Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and State of Palestine. This included:

  • Developing, localising and delivering an online training curriculum for 25 women-owned entrepreneurs to enhance digital presence and online business models

  • Providing train the trainer programme to 5 potential e-commerce trainers and coaches

  • Workshop on the Level Up Accelerator in Jordan on cross-border e-commerce

  • Workshop on building a digital presence for the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).

Results: The Executive E-marketing Programme launched during September 2021 when 25 women entrepreneurs were welcomed onto the programme. The successful graduates attended a ceremony on the 14 December 2021 to celebrate their achievements.

Outcomes so far include:

  • Increases of followers up to 24% on Facebook and 29% on Instagram

  • Set up new business Facebook pages

  • Set up new Facebook Shops

  • Set up WhatsApp Business with catalogues

  • Wider use of different content e.g. why us, reviews, behind the scenes, launch, project spotlights, videos and reels

  • Integration of social media pages with WhatsApp

  • Ran organic and paid ad campaigns on social media

  • Customers asking for pricing and to buy in comments.
